Spiced Buttery Brioche French Toast
4 thick slices of brioche bread
1 1/4 cup of milk
2 tablespoons of coconut oil
1/4 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
a pinch of ground cloves
In a large bowl add eggs and milk. Whisk until fluffy.
For the spice blend add all ingredients in a small jar or container with a lid and shake vigorously to mix.
Add spice blend to the whisked eggs and milk.
Heat griddle or skillet to medium high and drop 1 tablespoon of coconut oil. Prepare two slices of bread by dipping in mixture until soft to the point they are still solid and not falling apart, take notice. Do not let the bread break apart. Add bread to the griddle or skillet. Brown, about 2-3 minutes on one side until the french toast starts to brown and rise, then flip and repeat.
Repeat for the remaining two slices of bread by adding the remaining coconut oil to the griddle or skillet.
Set aside. Let settle and cool.
Top with maple syrup and a a dusting on the spice blend all over . Enjoy.
Unrefined and cold pressed coconut oil is ideal for cooking french toast making it buttery and brown.
The possibilities are endless for toppings and garnishes. Explore and experiment with fruits, nuts and even some whipping cream. Maybe some bacon and maple syrup!
I really love the buttery brioche bread that Trader Joe’s sell for making my french toast.
